Well, It can’t guarantee riches. Sorry!
If you are looking for a quick fix to get a website ranking, looking for a cheap solution or looking at SEO as an expense rather than an investment then it isn’t for you and I would stop reading now.
If you are still with me then I assume you are looking to take SEO seriously and understand the benefits it can bring to your business. I can guarantee an excellent SEO campaign can grow your business beyond your wildest dreams.
How long does an SEO campaign take?
Let’s be honest there are no quick fix results and all those emails you get promising to get you to No.1 in a month are lying.
SEO isn’t difficult it’s common sense but there will be hours of work with no results, it’s a long game, 3-6 months before you see any results.
Let’s look at the anatomy of an SEO campaign steps
1. Keyword Research.
This is where you put yourself in the shoes of your customers and potential customers. What are they putting into Google to find your service? A balance of search volume and competitiveness is needed but choosing the wrong keywords can fluush weeks of work down the drain.
One of the tools we use for keyword research is Ubersuggest, the free version will give you enough information on keywords.
2. On-Page Optimisation.
A web designer worth his salt should have designed your site with Google in mind. Most of the problems we encounter with clients are self builds or templated website builds where lack of knowledge has missed on-page SEO.
The ideal optimised page should have the following:
- Be relevant to a specific topic (usually a product or single object)
- Include subject in the title tag
- Include subject in URL
- Include subject in the image alt text
- Specify subject several times throughout text content
- Provide unique content about a given subject
- Link back to its category page
- Link back to its subcategory page (If applicable)
- Link back to its homepage (accomplished with an image link showing the website logo on the top left of a page)
3. Off-Page Optimisation.
A far less controllable process is Off-Page Optimisation. Off-Page SEO affords the website relevance, trustworthiness and authority.
Examples of Off-Page Optimisation are:
- Number, quality and relevance of backlinks
- Google reviews
- Social media marketing
- Guest blogging
4. Monitoring
As we go through the process it is wise to keep a spreadsheet of the keywords used and track the position in Google weekly.
5. Refinement
Assess what you have done and review the results, then start again tweaking anything that is not working.
Conclusion
Finally, if you haven’t already done so set up a Google Analytics account. It gives fantastic information on the volume of traffic, bounce rate and much more.
