Everyone loves getting good customer feedback.

Do customer testimonials really work?

One of the first things you do when buying a product or service is to see what other people have to say about it. Customer testimonials are important; if someone is saying something wonderful about your business or the products you offer then it’s a great sign to new and potential customers.

How can you get customers to give you a testimonial?

All you have to do is to ask and with that in mind here are several factors that you may want to keep in mind:

Timing.

Ask for testimonials when the buying experience is still fresh. Ask during a follow-up email or phone call. Your customers are more likely to agree to a testimonial if they are happy with the experience of doing business with you.

The ask.

Don’t just ask anyone from the company for the testimonial. The person who has worked through the buying process with the customer has formed a relationship, so a request to them is more likely to be met with a positive reaction.

Ask for it in writing.

Ask for it in writing preferably on the company letterhead. Display them prominently in your office environment and they will look great as a background on a Zoom call.

Provide examples.

Let’s be honest, writing a testimonial can be a very daunting task. If your customer doesn’t know where to start or what to include, providing examples or a template will make the process easy for everyone involved.

Existing content.

Browse through Google reviews, social media comments, blog comments and emails from clients to look for good, detailed reviews that may serve as testimonials. Always check with the customer before using their words as a testimonial on your website.

Make a video.

Ask the contact if they would feel comfortable giving you a testimonial on camera. This may not be everyone’s preferred method but if they agree, you can use the video on your website.

Open ended questions.

Ask them why they chose you over a competitor? Whether you could do anything to make the experience even better in the future. This gives you an opportunity to receive insights that may be favourable for your company.

Make it easy.

Try to make it as easy as possible to give a testimonial. Have a link to your reviews in ‘Google My Business’ as part of your email signature. Provide a feedback form on your website so you can use direct quotes that have been sent to you by customers.

Including testimonials on your website shows how proud you are of your product and service. Using your customer reviews you can win the trust of prospective customers and get them on board.
